8 thrilling movies to look forward to this year

Some of this year’s most anticipated action movies already have fans excited before their releases. Check out these eight movies set to release between now and the summer.

Morbius 

The newest installment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), “Morbius” has left fans upset after several delays to the movie’s release date. Originally set to release in January, its final release date is set to be April 1. Despite its negative response before its release, the excitement begins to build as its release draws near. It follows Jarred Leto as Morbius as he attempts to cure himself and his friend from an unknown disease, accidentally giving himself vampiric powers in the process. The movie is rated PG- 13 for light swearing and violence.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

After the tease at the end of the first movie, “Sonic 2” will hopefully be just as enjoyable as the first for all ages. Unlike the first, the second movie did not have to be delayed to fix some visual errors on Sonic. The animated and live-action movie will also be introducing the characters Knuckles and Tails to the series, along with the return of Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman. The movie is set to be released on April 8 and is rated PG like the previous film.

Fantastic Beasts: The secrets of Dumbledore

After almost a year’s delay in filming due to COVID and the setbacks of recasting Johnny Depp, fans are excited for “The Secrets of Dumbledore” early release on April 15. After multiple delays of release, the third installment of the series is set to have a great launch as anticipation builds as the first full-length trailer was released on March 1, having a very positive response from fans around the world. “The Secrets of Dumbledore” is set to be PG-13, much like the other films from the series.

“Multiverse of Madness” is set to premiere on May 6 and Benedict Cumberbatch is once again coming to the big screen, playing many versions of Dr. Strange. (IMDB)

Dr. Strange in Multiverse of Madness

The long-awaited sequel to the “Dr. Strange” movie, “Multiverse of Madness” is set to premiere on May 6. The trailer’s teasing at a possibly evil Dr. Strange, along with other variants which have yet to be introduced into the MCU. Much to the pleasure of many fans, the movie is set to be directed by Sam Raimi, who directed “Spiderman” 1-3 and the “Evil Dead” series. Benedict Cumberbatch is once again coming to the big screen, playing many versions of Dr. Strange in the movie.

Lightyear

After the sudden announcement of yet another “Toy Story,” “Lightyear” has much hype surrounding the movie before its release on June 17. The trailer has yet to disappoint, following Buzz Lightyear on his space travels in his stand-alone film. Fans both young and old are excited for the release of a big part of many people’s childhoods. The movie is set to be PG, allowing younger fans to enjoy the film.

Thor: Love and Thunder

The fourth and final installment into the Thor series has left fans anticipating its release on July 8 after the well-received third release, “Thor: Ragnarok.” Taika Waititi will once again be directing the final film starring Christopher Hemsworth as Thor. The movie is rated PG-13 with a run time of 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Black Adam

Based on the DC Comics, “Black Adam” is set to premiere on July 29. The movie is the first movie DC has released introducing a new character in almost a decade. It stars  Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Fans are excited to get a glimpse of the new DC heroes. “Black Adam” is set to be PG-13, however with a large amount of violence, the rating may be changed to R. 

“Nope” has gained a cult following before its release and is directed and produced by Jordan Peele. (IMDB)

Nope

Set to release on July 7, “Nope” already has much of a following with its captivating trailer released in early February.  The horror/thriller is directed and produced by Jordan Peele. The movie has gained a cult following before its release, especially after his other movies such as “Get Out” and “Us.” The movie is expected to be rated R for language, violence and gore, which will be accompanied by spectacular visuals and amazing practical effects.
