“I feel proud of myself because I know a lot of people auditioned and didn’t win,” Mallari said, who sang “Colors of the Wind” from “Pocahontas.”

Mallari hasn’t always been so fond of singing aloud, or even singing in general. At three years old, she began her singing lessons with her vocal coach Jona Peralta which then sparked a passion that would last for the next 15 years.

Mallari received $300 from 31st District PTSA Music Scholarship Committee. Singing has done many things for Mallari, which affected her in a positive way. Singing opened up an exciting world to Mallari that greatly impacted who she now is.

Mallari will be majoring in communications and minoring in music at UC Santa Barbara. Mallari will be singing the Star Spangled Banner at graduation.

“It was more to see if I had what it takes to win,” Mallari said.
