Baseball season is coming to a close for the Birmingham Community Charter High School Patriots and it seems that the team will finish with a winning record.

“We’ve had a good season,” Raymundo Ruvalcaba said. “We’ve played good teams and bad teams and we’re finally over .500.”

Throughout the course of the year, second baseman, Ruvalcaba has played his role on the team nicely.

“I’ve done my job well,” Ruvalcaba said. “I get on base a lot and play well in the infield.”

On Wed. May 14  the Patriots had a rough match against Cleveland High School.   Ruvalcaba played a key part in his team’s nail-biting 3-2 victory, getting two hits and scoring the game-winning run.

“We won a close, sloppy game. I went 2 for 4 with two singles and I scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly,” Ruvalcaba said.

Since Ruvalcaba is a senior, the amount of time the Patriots get with the Daniel Pearl Magnet High School representative is limited. However, the California State Northridge baseball team may benefit from his talents in future years.

“I want to play in college if the CSUN coach has room on the team,” Ruvalcaba said.

The Patriots will miss the likes of Ruvalcaba next season, but CSUN may just be getting their next star player.

“Playing for CSUN would be great because I’d get to become a better player and be on a college team,” Ruvalcaba said.
