Students felt the impact of poetry during today’s Get Lit Blitz assembly, which featured several performers from Get Lit, a Los Angeles-based slam poetry organization.

The assembly was held virtually during period 2 and Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS) teachers tuned in with their classes via Zoom. The spoken word poets read both classic and original pieces on topics ranging from mental health to ramen during the hour-long assembly. The event also served to recruit students for DPMHS’ Get Lit team, which has competed in the annual Get Lit Classic Slam in previous years.

“Everybody can do this by picking up a pen, putting it to paper and letting your mind wander,” said Get Lit’s Head of Music Austin Antoine during the assembly.
