The fifth grade is always tough, but for 10-year-old August Pullman, it’s a life changing experience.

In “Wonder” directed by Stephen Chbosky, known for directing “Beauty and the Beast,” a very unique 10-year-old boy named August Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) also known as Auggie born with facial deformities. Pullman has had 27 plastic surgeries in his 10 years of life to help with reconstruction, due to this Pullman has been home schooled his whole life, but this year his mom thought he needed a change.

On Pullman’s first day of public school, he is not welcomed with open arms. His classmates stare at him and make fun of him all day long. His classmates think that if he touches them they’ll get the plague. On the same day, Pullman’s older sister Via (Izabela Vidovic,) an ordinary high school student, experiences her best friend leaving her to hang out with the cool kids.

Both Pullman and Via have terrible first days at school. The film shows the comparison of the two siblings and their day at school. They both come to the conclusion that school sucks, until it gets better. Pullman makes his first friend Jack Will (Noah Jupe) and continues to make more and more. Things start to clear up for Via too. She gets the lead in the school play, makes up with her old best friend and even makes new friends.

Near the end of the movie something happens to Pullman that makes him realize he belongs.
