Recently, students have seen a positive change in the food items available at the student store.

“I was really happy and quite surprised when I saw all the new options that were available to us,” sophomore Jessica Recinos said.

New items such as reduced fat Doritos, Rold Gold Pretzels and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Puffs fill the tables in the student store. In order to spice it up, there are monthly deals available to the students. This month’s deal is 50 cents for items such as popcorn, corn nuts, and pretzels. New items are here to not only bring more choices to the students but to bring more income to the student store.

“It’s good news for us,” said Daniel Pearl Magnet Financial Manager Erica Felicitas.

In order to get new items for the student store, there is quite a lengthy process that follows. A request must be filled out with the name of the vendor, product and it’s details. This form is sent to the Los Angeles Unified School District Nutrition Department for approval. The selected food items are sent to the school, ready to be sold.

“Finally their [students] requests are finally being answered to get more food items,” Felicitas said.
