Secret is a mobile app that connects someone to friends through their contacts, all anonymously. The app, founded by former Google employees was released in the United States in January.

Using Secret people can post messages anonymously, about anyone or anything freely, ultimately without any repercussions. This leads to specific people being targeted sometimes. Gossiping and bullying are issues on Secret that are trying to be monitored.

The app can now recognize when a person’s name is typed and warns the user with a message “think before you post.” Posts can also be flagged, which might lead to someone getting banned.

The creators of Secret, David Byttow and Chrys Bader-Wechseler wanted to create honest conversation between people in a constructive environment without them having to identify themselves. People will more likely be honest if their names aren’t involved.

This app is not highly ranked on the Itunes charts but has caught the attention of people. Secret is not available on the Google Play Store.

People can post personal issues that they may need advice on or share a good place to eat without being judged.

Although anonymity sometimes leads to bad behavior, ultimately the founders of the app believe it depends on who is in your network. Many people use sites where they are identified, like Facebook to post offensive things so Secret does not bear that big of an issue.

Secret allows their users to speak freely and be themselves.
