App of the Month: Subway Surfers

Elijah Zelonky

Everywhere from Paris France to Miami, Florida, Jake and his hooligan friends run from the train inspector and his dog af- ter being caught doing graffiti.

Along the way, the troublemakers (one is playable at a time) pick up powerups and avoid dangerous obstacles until they are caught by the inspector. Along the way, the collect coins and points. It is an endless running game, very similar to temple run, that involves running on trains, floating on hover boards and jet packing over the station.

Subway Surfers was invented by a company in Denmark called Kiloo. It is visually appealing and moderately addictive. Although it is impossible to win the game, the character runs forever until he gets caught or gets hit, the incentive of collecting coins and buying interesting items makes the game hard to stop playing.

In the app store, this game has a high rating of 4.5 stars.

Freshman Julia Torres is a casual player but she still is very fond of the game and the way it is played.

“I usually play a couple times a week whenever I’m bored. I like collecting the little coins and being able to change the avatar. I feel like it’s a spin off of Temple Run,” Torres said.

While Torres only runs from the inspectors occasionally, junior Ricardo Moreno is extremely passionate about the game.

“I usually play like around every single day. I like running away from the secu- rity guards. It’s very dangerous that you are running while dodging locomotives and signs every single time. The danger is appealing. It tests your reaction time as well.”

Subway Surfers is an enjoyable game for many people. It is a perfect combination of fun and challenging.
