Although more preparation is required, theatre class’ modern rendition of William Shakespeare’s 1590s tale, “Midsummer Night’s Dream” brings a new comedic sense to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS).

“Preparation is essential in order to meet the performance dates,” Jamie Whitmarsh, the theatre class teacher and play director said.

“For now, I have the actors study the play but starting next week, there will be after school rehearsals.”

Whitmarsh has decided to take an interactive approach in terms of the location, or should I say ‘locations’ of the play.

If plans go accordingly, the play will open in the multi-purpose room (MPR) and close in the main courtyard.

“They move from Athens to the Arden Forest in the original play. Moving areas allows the play to come alive,” Whitmarsh said.

Main roles have been assigned, leaving few others to be determined.

Rehearsals are set for every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm starting on April 10.  Rehearsals will be taking place in the (MPR) and occasionally the south courtyard.

A collaboration with Jackie Gorski’s, choir teacher at DPMHS, choir class has also been rumored about contributing to the play with a musical numbers.

Daniel Uhlenberg, a junior, who is playing Lysander, in this complex love square, anticipates nothing short of excellence.

“I hope it turns out perfectly and we all strike it big in Hollywood. One could dream,” Uhlenberg said.

“Midsummer Night’s Dream” is set to debut on May 23, and give its last hurrah on May 24.
