App of the Month Part 1: Ruzzle

By Ana Hernandez
Staff Writer

If you’re a fan of word games such as Word with Friends and Scrabble, you’ll like Ruzzle.

Photo by Ana Hernandez. An example of how you can score points in Ruzzle. The circles above the letters denote special points.

Ruzzle is a fun and fast-paced word game whose goal is to find as many words  as you can in two minutes. It is at the top of Apple’s Top 25 “Free” List and is also very poplular on Android. You can connect with your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, Ruzzle friends, or even a random opponent from across the world.

However, if you decide to play with a random opponent, it can take anywhere from hours to days for that  person to make a move.

Ruzzle consists of a four-by-four letter grid which you can find the words vertically, horizontally, diagonally and even in “L” and “V” shapes.
There are three rounds in the game and the person with the most points wins. Also, if  the other player doesn’t make a move within 72 hours, you automatically win the game.
There are game tiles that have triple and double value that give the word a large amount of points. These include difficult letters like “Z” and “Q.”

Ruzzle has a free version and a premium version. The difference is that in the free version, you only can have a limited amount of ongoing games.

The premium version lets you have an unlimited amount of ongoing games. It is also ad-free, has a  practice mode and various statistics. The premium version costs $1.99.

Once you start playing, you will get highly addicted to this fun game and it will be very hard to stop since everything about the game is so fast.

Both versions of Ruzzle are available in the Apple App Store and Google Play for Android.

Check back in a couple of weeks (when the print version of The Pearl Post comes out) for the second portion of February’s App of the Month. Hint: all of the players wear “tuxedos.”
