Selfie brings up topic of slut shaming

Something that is very memorable about our generation is how accepting and encouraging people are becoming toward others; no matter their gender, sexual orientation or even their sexual history. Amber Rose and Blac Chyna promoted these new and accepting body positivity and anti-slut shaming trends during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards when they wore matching outfits with words like “slut” and “whore” plastered all over them.

Kim Kardashian’s censored nude selfie spurred many different opinions from all across social media outlets about whether it’s body positivity or Kardashian just being what everyone’s been labeling her for years, a slut. Although there were many people applauding Kardashian for going against society norms, there was definitely a fair share of hateful comments accusing her as a bad mother for not being a role model to her own and other children.

Since Kardashian is the mother of two, society has expected her to act more like a mom and quit her very sexual persona she’s been living for years. She is suddenly being expected to act as a role model, however it isn’t her job to do so, and especially not for other people’s children.

What she decides to do on her time or what she decides to post shouldn’t be the headline for articles all over the internet. It’s gotten to the point where her image has spurred news stories on actual news sites like The Los Angeles Times, in addition to hundreds of other obnoxious sites like PerezHilton.com.

Many celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez and even Kourtney Kardashian have had censored and/or full nude shoots and it never brought this much rage from the people. The difference with Kim Kardashian, however, is her past. It’s having people view her differently than the other sisters, or just other celebrities in general, because of what’s been leaked. But if other celebrities can do it, why can’t she?

“It’s 2016. The body-shaming and slut-shaming—it’s like, enough is enough. I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality,” Kim Kardashian said on her app. “You be you and let me be me. I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy.”

There is no stopping rude comments and obnoxious people from having opinions but people should begin to realize that what they say doesn’t have any effect on the celebrities who post what they post. They will still continue to make money, and probably even more with all the attention they’re getting. Kardashian should be able to post whatever she pleases because it’s her body, but it’s pretty funny reading those hate comments.
