During Sharks 4 Christ club, students get the opportunity to learn more about Bible stories and gain a better understanding of Christianity.
“It made me understand that he’s not there to grant your wishes, like a genie,” junior Marina Nelson said. “He’s there to help you throughout your life.”
Sharks 4 Christ meet in Room 12 every Tuesday during lunch. The club was founded by alumnus Genesis Cuellar-Figueroa and David Antonio and is now led by juniors Jasmine Thompson, who is Pearl Post’s opinion editor, and Isabella Tolosa, who is Prestige Yearbook editor-in-chief.
“I personally joined this club because I feel like in a school there’s a bunch of people in this club for all the same things, like having a relationship with Jesus and all,” Tolosa said. “So I think it’s really nice for that. And I think that finding, like seeing all the people that want to be on the same journey as you, (I) think it’s really nice.”
Seeing how the ambiance was, they both gained inspiration to take over the club. In doing so, they both became co-presidents and continued the club last semester.
The activities consist of slideshows explaining different events in the Bible, and at the end of the lecture, there’s a mini quiz. Other activities include a potluck and goodie bag drives for the school. Additionally, they learned about the Seven Days of Creation, Jesus Christ as a baby and psalms.
For future meetings, members expressed how they wanted to cover deeper parts of the Bible to learn more.
“Yesterday I was making the lesson, I was kind of thinking, ‘Wow, this is a great way to connect with God,’” Thompson said. “But it’s really beautiful to have to connect with God by yourself and then connect it to others.”
