The Birmingham Community Charter High School girls lacrosse team will begin another season on the Feb. 27 with high expectations and enough confidence to win the 2015 city championships.

The team works vigorously as they condition and practice daily after school getting ready for the new season to arise. Their daily practices consists of getting into groups and running two and a half miles around the track as well as focusing on their throwing and catching. Conditioning everyday will benefit the players with their weariness during their games.

“In the previous season I think we did amazing. Winning city champs was really great for our team because we worked so well together which was pretty amazing,” junior varsity player April Serrano said.

An accomplishment that their team is known for is their crowning as the 2014 City Championships. The Pacific Palisades Dolphins and the Lady Patriots were close to overtime until their offense and defense stepped in, scoring the winning point.

This is the first year the lacrosse team has more junior varsity players which means more training to prepare the new players. More training will occur to help them get ready for the new season. Stick work and running will be two more drills that’ll need to be perfected to improve their endurance and transition.

“Our team hopes to come back and face the Palisades for CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) and to also come back to the southern section tournament as this the my last year on the team,” varsity player Ana Perez said.
