VIDEO: Principal Smith and student body vice president take the Ice Bucket Challenge

The latest craze sweeping the internet and social media is the Ice Bucket Challenge. And on Friday it came to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School with Student Body Vice President Ana Perez and Principal Deb Smith having ice water dumped on them during the lunch-time Fiesta Friday.

What exactly is the Ice Bucket Challenge? It all started with pro-golfer Chris Kennedy, who dumped a bucket of ice water on his head after being challenged to by a friend. The idea was that Kennedy would either do the challenge or donate to the charity of his choice. The charity he chose was the ALS (aka Lou Gerhig’s disease) Foundation. Kennedy then challenged some of his friends and from there the challenge has spiraled into a viral sensation, with celebrities like Oprah, LeBron James and even Kermit the Frog taking the challenge. The challenge has evolved from its humble origins into a nationwide phenomenon that has raised awareness for ALS and has directly or indirectly caused millions upon millions of dollars to be donated to the foundation.
