Junior Nadia Buer continues to lead Earth Club in hopes of bringing in new members.
“The beginning of sophomore year, I joined and I was always interested in Earth, environment and seeing what the club was about,” Buer said. “The two seniors that led the club graduated that year. So I carried on Earth Club and now the only members of the club are me and Ms. Zohrabyan.”
Earth Club meets weekly on Wednesdays in Room 5. Although not originally founded by Buer, she decided to step up and help the future of the club. Under the leadership of Buer, who is the current social media editor for The Pearl Post, and club sponsor and science teacher Ani Zohrabyan, the club plans events and activities and goes over the goals they have.
“I want to spread awareness about our Earth and properties and what earth offers,” Buer said. “How can we be sustainable from day to day life as well as bringing our community closer?”
On May 15, during Fiesta Friday, a booth for Earth Club was held in The Grove. There was an activity where students will be able to plant, and take home California Wildflowers in small terracotta pots. With the assistance of Buer and school staff, the booth ran smoothly throughout lunch. The club hopes that many will see what they have to offer and bring in new students who are interested. They are especially hopeful for this considering that the club consists of only Buer and Zohrabyan. They remain optimistic about educating future members on the Earth.
“I hope we can grow the club as a whole and do more activities and have a segue into environmental organizations,” Buer said.
