Students, their families, friends and alumni are welcome to attend this year’s Open House on Friday, where the school and community gather to explore the campus and learn about programs aimed at strengthening enrollment by showcasing student work to families and attracting new students.
“People being able to see all the amazing work happening with our current students is just as important as our level of recruiting students,” Principal Kimberly Figueroa-Oliveira said. “By showcasing our current students and their families, we are then recruiting new families because they get to see the magic happening here.”
The Open House Festival will take place throughout the school campus from 4 to 7 p.m on March 13. All guests are able to take a student-led campus tour and explore the programs offered here, including the journalism, music and film departments. Journalism teacher Adriana Chavira, music teacher Wes Hambright and award-winning filmmaker Tennessee Norton will discuss their class curriculum, opportunities for students, their backgrounds in their respective fields and more.
“I’m conducting a Pearl TV takeover stimulation for students,” Norton said. “Getting these students involved is really integral to getting them exposed to our culture here.”
Attendees are also encouraged to learn more about the school’s Dual Enrollment and Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. The school has been promoting this event for approximately a month on its Instagram page and adding a pop-up advertisement on its website. By posting funny skits created by the leadership class on Instagram, or by students spreading the word by mouth, Principal Kimberly Figueroa-Oliveria expects this year’s “Open House Festival” to be successful.
“Others seeing us celebrate and showcase our abilities kind of ramp up the excitement of prospective families,” said Figueroa-Oliveira. “They can hopefully see themselves in this space and join us.”
