Even though the summer has officially ended for students, the fun doesn’t have to end. Here are some fun and budget-friendly suggestions for this long weekend.

Forget summer break ever ended during this long Labor Day weekend. With summer coming to a close, Labor Day weekend gives students a last opportunity to make summer memories. Can’t think of anything to do? Here are some ideas to help you have a fun, affordable and memorable Labor Day weekend.

  1. Beat the heat this Labor Day weekend by taking a trip to the beach and visiting an aquarium. Cabrillo Beach offers a wonderful location for family picnics, windsurfing and bonfires at night. Cabrillo Beach also has an aquarium open to everyone. Explore the kelp forests, rocky shores and visit the Exploration Center. The aquarium operates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends. With just a $9 fee for all-day parking, you can create fun memories with family and friends and cool off this weekend.
  2. Visit the iconic ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier. While you’re there, check out the rest of the thrilling rides at Pacific Park, play at the arcades and visit the small shops located throughout the Pier. Because of the heat, the Santa Monica Pier will be packed with people this long weekend so parking will be a hassle. Unless you want to pay for parking, I recommend you take a bus or an Uber to the Pier.
  3. Get free soft serve at Dog Haus. At participating Dog Huas locations, get a free ice cream cone on Labor Day. The hot dog chain has partnered with Fosselman’s Ice cream and will be serving free treats all day. What’s better than free treats on Labor Day?
  4. Spend the day at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds this Labor Day weekend for tons of fun. Play games, win prizes, get your fortune told and explore the large fairgrounds with family and friend. The L.A. County Fair offers more than 40 exciting rides and 70 riveting games. At the fairgrounds, you can try almost any food fried including deep fried Twinkies, cookie dough (yes that’s a thing and it’s amazing), and if you are feeling extremely brave, the LA County Fair now serves deep fried hot sauce. The LA County Fair is opened 10 a.m. until midnight on Saturday and Sunday and from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Labor Day. The admission for adults 13 and older is $20 plus the food and rides cost. Be sure to bring sunblock and water and have tons of fun at the fair.
  5. Visit Fiesta Hermosa. From Sept. 3-5, Hermosa Beach is transformed into one of the largest art fairs in Los Angeles. The streets of Hermosa Beach are packed with over 300 artists including painters, jewelers, photographers, and more. The 44th annual Hermosa Beach festival is more than just an art fair. The Fiesta Hermosa also features live music in tribute to bands like Santana, The Who and U2. Hermosa Beach is the perfect place to visit this Labor Day weekend. Escape the heat and walk the streets of Downtown Hermosa Beach.
