LAUSD to review senior transcripts

LAUSD is temporarily hiring 25 to 50 retired counselors and administrators after the computerized records system MiSiS is creating mistakes in transcripts such as courses missing or incorrect final grades.

“Every senior transcript has been printed from the old SIS system and from the new MiSiS system and the ones from each system have been compared and reviewed for errors,” counselor Martina Torres said. “Any errors found have been listed and sent to the district. Those will be handled from the district level or the local level.

Some college applications are due as soon as Nov. 1 and transcripts for seniors need to be reviewed by hand to ensure that there are no errors before they are sent to colleges.

“I have personally gone through each one and recalculated the GPAs and reported any inconsistencies to the district,” Torres said.

The Interim Supt. Ramon C. Cortines will be contacting the presidents of state universities and private universities in Calif. to notify them of the current problem with transcripts in LAUSD. Torres worked with a district official to handle inconsistencies.

At DPMHS, there are 13 seniors that are applying early and they have notified Torres in advance. Regular deadlines are coming soon as well so all of the transcripts have to be reviewed.

“I have 114 transcripts that I’ve looked through already. They’ve been reviewed and now I need to fix errors,” Torres said.
