Senior Anthony Dracic is one of the exceptionally rare athletes that shines in every sport that he wishes to engage in.

“I’ve tried all the sports and I really like them,” Dracic said.

Dracic is currently on the Birmingham Community Charter High School varsity water polo team. He also plays other sports such as basketball and football as hobbies  during lunch.

Dracic’s love for sports was brought on by his parents who introduced him to several sports at a young age.

“My father first taught me how to play sports like basketball, golf and soccer,” Dracic said. “I just realized that I was good at them and I caught on quickly.”

When Dracic entered high school, he had numerous choices of sports teams to choose from. Dracic chose to play water polo because he prefers team sports and because water polo was a mix of a his favorite sports.

“I’ve always loved being in the water,” Dracic said. “Water polo offers me great opportunities and it pushes me to work harder.”

Maxim Grinfeld, fellow teammate, experienced Dracic’s improvement in water polo and swimming over three years.

“He became a better athlete by joining water polo and he got faster at swimming because of it,” Grinfeld said. “Anthony is a great teammate and improves our team.”

Grinfeld also stated that he expects Dracic to continue water polo in the future. The water polo team hopes to win their season this year and Dracic plans to train strenuously. Teamwork is an idea that Dracic stresses before and during matches.

“Teamwork is the strongest weapon to any team,” Anthony Dracic said. “Our [water polo] team has great chemistry this year and that will lead to our success this season.”

Water polo is special to Dracic because he loves swimming and being with the people that make him smile. Dracic plans on leading his life with athletics in mind.

“Sports will always be in my life,” Dracic said. “If the opportunity to play professionally arises, I will probably accept it just to experience my love of athletics more.”
