Artist of the Month: Yung Lean

Rap’s negative connotation has been a rusty nail infecting the whole genre with a severe case of tinnitus but once in a while there’s that one guy that confuses people. That makes us question if it’s even rap or not.

Jonatan Leandoer Håstad, or “Yung Lean,” is the type of artist that any other writer would label as “not your typical rapper,” but relative to what? That’s the genius of it. This 18-year-old Swedish man slurring words over some of the most refined production from Yung Gud and Yung Sherman makes you realize how labelling doesn’t matter.

Booming off the success from his last project, “Unknown Death,” and just coming off of his first American tour spanning over 10 cities in Canada and the United States, Lean has been working with artists like Charlie XCX and Travis Scott.

Music is music, and with his new album, “Unknown Memory” released on Sept. 23, is not only giving you new music, but a new perspective.
