Video Production released its new morning broadcast “The Pearl Morning News Show” in May.

The eight-minute show debuted on May 8 and had information on school news such as a field trip to NBC Studios. The show also included news on entertainment, technology and weather. They talked about upcoming movies, Apple’s plans for the oncoming year and the week’s weather.

“It recapped all the events in our school,” junior Metzy Soriano said.

Last year, the school received a Perkins Grant of several thousands of dollars to start a broadcast program.  Originally the school was set to receive $82,000 for equipment such as computers, video cameras, lights and other equipment, but that amount was reduced.

The show is scheduled to be produced every two years. It is on YouTube and posted on The Pearl Post website. Several teachers showed the program during second period.

Middlebrook explains that it was his stubbornness and the casts ingenuity that kept the creation of the broadcast on track.

“My goal is to have more equipment, a better broadcast and to take the chaos out,” video production teacher Mark Middlebrook said.

The show’s staff includes juniors Karla Medrano and Dravin Medina as news anchors and Daniel Diaz as entertainment, seniors Joshua Garcia as tech and Enrie Amezcua as the producer.

“I enjoy being anchor because I like having a voice,” Medrano said.

The broadcast students spent time putting the set together and rehearsing for their first show.

“I wanted to try something new,” Diaz said on why he wanted to participate in this project. “It seemed interesting.”
