The Birmingham Community Charter High School Patriots are starting their swim season once again.

This year, eight Daniel Pearl sharks are hitting the water with them. Anthony Dracic, Rosemary Vazquez, Max Grinfeld, Evelyna Papoyan, Johanne Toborda, Rebekah Spector, Theresa Carter and Arianna Aguayo are among them, looking to make this year’s swim season a special one.

“This is my first year on the team, but I’ve been swimming since I was very young. The team is pretty good, we’ve won all of our matches so far,” Vazquez said.

Every sports season has challenges, but every team has goals. Grinfeld has  specific ambitions set in stone.

“My goal is to get a 103 on my 100 meter  breaststroke,” Grinfeld said.

Of course, the team’s season is more important than their personal goals.

“This season, our goal is to place third in the 200 medley at CIF’s. I think we have a good chance of meeting our goal,” Grinfeld said.

With eight Sharks swimming for the Patriots, the swim seasons expectations are high. Things are looking good for them this year.

“All I hope for is that we be the best and come up as one of three best teams of the CIF’s tournament,” Vazquez said.
