With the growing popularity of dystopian societies, “Divergent” is the most recent trilogy to head to the big screen.

Originally written as a novel by Veronica Roth in 2011, “Divergent,” directed by Neil Burger, shares the tale of protagonist Beatrice Prior (portrayed by Shailene Woodley) living in the dystopian city of Chicago. Beatrice, who goes by Tris, is troubled with the decision most teens face, the path of her future.

In this society, citizens are divided into five categories: Abnegation the selfless, Amity the peaceful, Candor the honest, Dauntless the brave and Erudite the intelligent. On Choosing Day, all sixteen-year-olds decide which faction to join by taking an aptitude test.

This is how Tris discovers she is a Divergent, a faction that consists of multiple factions. Then after knowing about a conspiracy of the cold, Erudite leader named Jeanine (played by Kate Winslet) to eradicate all Divergents since it unbalances the scales of society, Tris decides to hide her identity as a Divergent and join the Dauntless faction. There, Tris attempts to find friends she could trust and possibilities of protecting her loved ones.

Filled with rising stars, “Divergent” introduces actor Theo James as the strong Dauntless leader, known as Four, who helps Tris reach her potential. As well as “Project X” star Miles Teller as Peter, the cruel Dauntless who torments Tris.

Like many dystopian films, “Divergent” will surely raise question about the tradition values viewed in society. “Divergent” is set to be released in theaters on March 21.
