Following one’s favorite show couldn’t be more enjoyable when doing so with a fellow fan, which is what juniors Amanda Arst and Boa Pistol-Boesch strived to accomplish by establishing the Fandom Club.

“I want to let people with the same interests interact more,” Arst said. “We like the idea of having a club where everyone can come, watch and talk about the fandoms that they’re in.”

Usually during meetings, club members watch shows and talk amongst each other about the characters they like or dislike. Meetings take place in sponsor Stephen Schaffter’s room, Room 6 every Tuesday during lunch .

There are several fandoms, with “Doctor Who,” “Hetalia” and “Lord of the Rings” being some of the more popular ones. The co-presidents also give members an opportunity to know when there are special events or other important dates to look forward to

“There’s a significant student population that does enjoy fandom shows and movies,” Pistol-Boesch said. “We have a few people that come every so often and I didn’t think there would be regulars. But  there are.”

The two club presidents started out with a good number of attendees. However, when totals went down to approximately 10 to 15 members, Arst eventually began to worry about keeping the high numbers.

“One of the troubles is that we want to keep a certain amount of people in,” Arst said. “We started off with a large amount but people start leaving because during the middle of the school year, they start doing (other) stuff during lunch.”

Despite that problem, members enjoy the club activities such as watching “Scooby Doo” in relation to the “Humans vs. Zombies” event that went on during the last week of October. The club was able to sponsor the Halloween event, thanks to Schaffter, their club advisor. There are other shows that the club has watched, such as the old “Doctor Who” DVDs that Arst brought recently.

“I like it when we pick out different things to watch,” junior Meagan Ford said. “Most of the people in this club are in the same things I’m into and they watch videos that I like.”
