Students win awards at Generation J Day event

Several advanced journalism students received awards on Saturday during the Generation J Day event at CSUN. About 100 students from about a dozen high schools in the Los Angeles area attended the event, sponsored by CSUN’s journalism department and the SoCal Journalism Education Association.

Ten DPMHS newspaper and yearbook staff attended the event and several won in the write-offs. Managing Editor Natalie Moore received first place in News Writing, Staff Writer Zach Adler received third place in Opinion Writing and Yearbook Editor and Newspaper Copy Editor Ana Perez received honorable mention in Photography.

Cartoonist and Staff Writer Sheena Gonzalez received a $100 scholarship for designing the winning logo for the SoCal JEA.(click on the link to see Sheena’s logo on the organization’s website). The Pearl Post staff gets a pizza party, too, since Sheena’s logo won.

The Pearl Post and Prestige Yearbook staff  holds their certificates and those of their colleagues who had to leave Saturday’s event early: Zach Adler, who won 3rd place in Opinion Writing, Enrie Amezcua, Ilana Gale holds Natalie Moore’s first place in News Writing award, Melyssa Montoya, Ana Perez holds her honorable mention in Photo, Hailey Phohevitz holds The Pearl Post’s award for the winning SoCal JEA logo and Saba Mahmoudi holds Sheena Gonzalez’s award for designing the winning SoCal JEA logo.
