Seniors Ayla Allen and Daniel Uhlenberg received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. This recognition  come from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and Allen and Uhlenberg are the first Daniel Pearl Magnet High School students to receive the letters.

“It was pretty cool. I told my mom and all she did was yell for about 10 minutes, out of happiness though,” Uhlenberg said.

Commended students are students who are just below the level required to be a semi-finalist, and are potential candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

“It certainly is a great honor because the group of kids selected by the NMS Committee totaled only 50,000 out of 1.5 million kids who took the PSAT in 2012. To be one of those 50,000 is absolutely incredible,” Allen said.
