Students from Wes Hambright’s band class end the school year with a bang through the Spring Concert, which includes an ensemble of students’ favorite songs.
“I like drumming and I have fun,” junior Moses Glascock. “My dad is a drummer in a band and that’s basically the reason why I chose to be a drummer in the band.”
The Spring Concert will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 1. Concert goers will enjoy a collection of live music chosen by participating students.
“I really like singing and I’ve definitely gotten better than I did when I started singing many years ago,” junior Serena Elkins said. “There’s still room for improvement but this whole experience has helped me reach out of my comfort zone.”
The concert will include songs such as “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel, “My Generation” by The Who, “Twentieth Century Fox” by The Doors, “It Ain’t Me, Babe” by Johnny Cash and “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” by The Arctic Monkeys. The concert setlist features 22 songs, divided into 7 songs in the first act and 15 songs in the second act.
“I think that’s kind of the backbone of what I try to do here as a music director is try to give the students the choice of their songs and how they want to perform them if they want to play an alternate version,” Hambright said. “I think there’s more incentive for students to want to do a good job because they have more say in it.”
The Spring Concert brings together the talents of Hambright’s band classes and Tennessee Norton’s film classes. With multiple people collaborating, many efforts are being made to assure the concert is a success.
“The best part about being part of the concerts that I really like is getting closer with the musicians, like the band,” senior Leeron Nakash said. “It’s always fun bonding and making more connections based off of that.”
