Due to an increase in donations from community members, students have plenty of new souvenirs and prizes to look forward to at the third annual Pearl Con on May 12.

“I think the donors chose to help as a way of connecting to the community and making sure to support local students and schools,” substitute teacher Charity Price said.

After two successful years, Pearl Con once again plans to bring everyone together for a memorable day of fun and entertainment. This year, due to the organization and help of Price, there will be even more fun items to take home, including pins, tote bags and car decals.

Among the donations are festive pins from well-known pop culture such as Marvel, DC Comics and Harry Potter, donated by Jude Albright from AtaBoy Collectibles. The tote bags, funded by donations, were designed by organizers Price, physical science teacher Steven Shaffer and biology teacher James Morrison. All attendees have the chance to win prizes such as tickets to Medieval Times and the Aquarium of the Pacific and animated flip books.

Price also organized a presentation on special effects make-up by speakers Kelly O’Leary and Melissa Howland. In addition to the generous donations Price organized, she also plans on helping handle food distribution and helping Pearl Con III run smoothly.

“When I’m there, I’m going to be in charge of food distribution and preparation,” Price said. “I’m also going to be in charge of helping to get the hospitality going and making sure our guests are comfortable.”
