Athlete of the Month: Janna Desamito

Q: When did you start playing?

A: “I started playing in 6th grade.”

Q: What inspired you to start playing?

A: “I was obese at first and I wanted to lose weight so I joined and then I liked the sport.”

Q: What do you like about the sport?

A: “It’s fun and I get to make new friends everyday. The teamwork is always great.”

Q:What is your biggest achievement?

A: “When I got an award for Mythical 6, which is pretty much an MVP award for the best 6 people on the team”

Q: What are some obstacles you have faced playing volleyball?

A: “I injured myself. I sprained my ankle.”

Q: How do you balance schoolwork and a sport?

A: “My practice starts at six, so when I get home I usually take a nap and eat. Then I get ready and go to practice. I get home at around 8:30 and do my homework.”

Q: How did you feel about the scholarship you were offered?

A: “I did not accept it because the tuition fee is too much. The scholarship from Mills College was offering me a few thousand and the tuition fee was too much, but I do see myself playing in the future.”
