Running at two hours and 30 minutes, “The Last Jedi,” episode 8, will be the longest Star Wars film in the current nine film franchise.

The film will immediately start off where “The Force Awakens” ended, when Rey (Daisy Ridley) hands Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) his long lost lightsaber. Characters also returning are Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and Leia Organa (the late Carrie Fisher.) New characters include resistance fighter Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) and the adorable porg creatures.

After the destruction of Starkiller Base, The First Order continues their reign of terror on the galaxy as the resistance fights for freedom. Now understanding her force sensitivity, Rey will be trained by Luke to learn the many ways of the force. Big mysteries such as the identities of Rey’s parents, could possibly be revealed in this episode and if Luke is still a Jedi due to the cliffhanger of the first trailer.

“The Last Jedi” will hit theaters Dec. 15 and is directed by Rian Johnson, who recently announced a new “Star Wars” franchise that will be separate from the Skywalker saga and will take place in a new galaxy with new characters.
