After fear that the new season wouldn’t bring them the results they wanted, the varsity boys volleyball team is undefeated in the pre-season.

In what has been an underdog moment for the team, the Patriots have swept through  the competition with a number of highlights along the way.

The Patriots beat Polytechnic High School 3-1 on March 4 in an away game that proved to be critical for the team’s pre-season. They not only learned from Poly’s tactics to better predict their tendencies in the future, but to also further improve their own tactics.

“Our best game was probably against Poly,” sophomore Jonas Acebes said. “Although it was the only game where we lost a set, we learned a lot, for our own strategies as well.”

They also swept through Kennedy and Monroe high schools both with 3-0 victories, in away and home games, proving they’re ready for the competition no matter where they are.

Pre-season is a reflection for what might come during season, which began March 25 in their first game against El Camino Real Charter High School or “El Co.”

“I’m really excited for the games against El Co and Granada,” Abeces said.

Although the varsity team is looking good, the junior varsity team is having some troubles. But things are looking up. The junior varsity team is 2-2, however as the new season begins it will hopefully bring them a better win-loss ratio.

Morale is definitely not dying down as a result of how well the varsity team is doing.

“I think I’m most excited for just going undefeated this season,” junior Daniel Seidman said.
