her state as well as the school at the 2016 Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest in Maryland from June 12-16.

Arst is the co-winner of the Individual Exhibit category where she created an enormous exhibit and presentation of Louise Arner Boyd, an American explorer and the first woman to fly over the North Pole.

“I was looking for a woman to study because we mainly learn about male explorers,” sophomore Arst said.  “I wanted something different. Out of all the people that I researched, I thought that Boyd is the most interesting because she’s not well known.”

Arst has been competing at the statewide, national and international level since the 6th grade.  She began with science competitions because it was mandatory. However at this point in time, she participates because she yearns to be more knowledgeable and inspired.

“I am excited for this opportunity and I hope to make everybody that supported me proud,” Arst said.
