Junior Jozsef Feher, a singles one tennis player for the varsity tennis team, enjoys playing tennis so much that he dedicates time nearly every day for practice.

“My favorite part about playing for the tennis team is the matches and getting to miss school,” he said.

Feher played tennis for four years before joining the Birmingham Community Charter High School tennis team his freshman year. He believes he improved in discipline over the seven years of playing and knows he can get even further through more practice.

“I was already playing it before and I didn’t want to be in PE,” he said. “It was fun (playing for the team).”

Tennis is an important sport to Feher, and because of this he dedicates nearly every day to practice with his dad. On weekends he plays in tournaments outside of school for the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

“He’s very good at motivating himself,” said senior Joseph Mousaed, another team member and a staff writer for the Pearl Post. “If he wants to improve in something, he works very hard at it. He has a big dedication to the sport.”

According to Mousaed, the BCCHS boys tennis team was struggling to win in previous years, but the team has been playing well lately. In a recent win, the Birmingham team beat Taft at 7-0 on March 2. Feher is one of the team’s best players, so he’s one of the reasons why the team has been scoring higher.

Feher plans on continuing to play tennis in the future.  He said that he might play in tournaments for USTA during summer break on weekdays. He  also wants to play tennis professionally in the future.

“I plan on playing college tennis for division two or one,” Feher said.
