CAHSEE on hold for 3 years

Gov. Jerry Brown suspended the California State Exit Exam (CAHSEE) from mandatory school requirements.

The CAHSEE has been suspended for three years due to a new law that was passed by Brown in October, allowing 5,000 students who did not pass the test dating back to 2004 to receive their diplomas.

In the past, sophomores had to take this exam to graduate. The test included eighth-grade math and 10th grade English.

Students who did not pass were given up to six retakes until they passed it. This suspension will allow the state to create a new test aligned with Common Core standards.
